another first timer...

Besides drawing sharks when I was about 5, I have never had to design one for production. Here is my first pass on a design for an upcoming shipment that I thought I would share w/ya'll, another Alias Sketchbook image.

Art of Animal Character Design with David Colman (teaser)

Well, many of you have been awaiting the debut of "The Art of Animal Character Design with David Colman". For those who are unaware it is a book I have been working on for quite some time about my practices, philosophies, and processes used when designing animal characters. It is a self published project to debut in winter of 2006/2007. I decided not to rush it for the San Diego Comic Con but felt it would be a good opportunity to promote the book. So, I went ahead and had a small "teaser" or "trailer" version printed to help advertise and give the fans a small taste of what is to come. It is called "The Art of Animal Character Design with David Colman_ The Little Brother Edition". A 36 page full color book about the size of most of the small sketchbooks on the market. Once again, just a preview, but a meal worth feasting upon. Only 150 copies were printed and it will be a Con Exclusive. The above piece is the wrap around cover for this teaser edition.

A new one for me....

I had to design a panda for work today and I have never drawn a panda...ever!1 Hard to believe huh..considering I love drawing all animals..just never did,maybe b/c none @the LA Zoo. .Anyway, while working on the design I did this alternate style of a panda on the side of my screen....I did this rather quickly and on a 2nd pass I would work it out a bit better,but pretty happy w/it on this first attempt,so figured I would post for some ya'll to take a gander

This is a development sketch I did for Avalanche Bay Theme Park about 2 years ago....there are about 10 characters.. This penguin was never trademarked but think they may eventually want to move forward.
